Moving In and Out of Chesterfield
Most of Chesterfield’s residential growth happened in the 1990s through the 2010s, which means the housing stock is newer construction, colonials, ranch walkouts, and two-story homes on larger lots spread throughout subdivisions along 23 Mile, 24 Mile, and 26 Mile Road. These homes tend to be bigger than what you find closer to Detroit, with open floor plans, oversized garages, and more furniture and stored items to move as a result.
The waterfront and canal communities are where Chesterfield moves get genuinely complicated. The neighborhoods along Anchor Bay and the Lake St. Clair canal system, particularly the streets running off Jefferson Avenue south of 21 Mile, are built on narrow lots with tight side yards. On many canal streets, a 26-foot truck can’t pull all the way to the front door. We stage on the nearest accessible point and carry from there, which adds time proportional to the distance. If your property is on a canal, tell us when you call. We’ll ask about street access and lot width so there are no surprises on move day.
Canal and waterfront homes in Chesterfield also tend to have significant volume beyond the main house, dock houses, storage sheds, detached garages, and seasonal equipment that accumulates over years of waterfront living. Outdoor furniture, dock chairs, patio sets, and stored PWC equipment all have to move too. Homeowners consistently underestimate how much is outside the main house. Count every structure and storage area when you call, and we’ll build it into the estimate.
The newer subdivisions in central and western Chesterfield, further from the water, off roads like Gratiot near 23 Mile, are more straightforward. Wide streets, standard driveways, and newer homes that were built to accommodate larger furniture. These moves run efficiently when the house is ready.
Common Questions
How far in advance should I book?
Two weeks gives you the best options on date and crew size. We take short-notice calls when we have availability, call and ask. Summer weekends fill fast, especially June through August when waterfront moves peak.
We have a canal property with a dock house and outdoor storage in addition to the main house. How do you quote that?
Walk us through every structure when you call, main house, dock house, sheds, and anything stored outside. Additional structures add both volume and carry distance. We factor all of it into the estimate upfront. Canal property moves that look like a standard four-bedroom job on paper often run 30 to 60 percent longer once we account for everything outside.
The street in front of our canal home is narrow. Can a 26-foot truck get in?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on the specific street and lot. Tell us your address when you call and we can usually tell you from experience whether we’ve worked that street before. If access is tight, we plan the staging point in advance so we’re not figuring it out on move day.
Our Chesterfield home is a newer build with large furniture and an open floor plan. Any concerns?
Open floor plans move well. The variables are doorway widths, staircases, and the size of your largest pieces. Tell us about anything oversized, sectionals, king beds, large dressers, and we’ll flag anything that might need disassembly before we show up.
Do you move pianos?
Yes. Before booking, send photos of the entrances at both locations so we can confirm access and quote accurately.
What forms of payment do you take?
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Amex. Payment is collected at the end of the job. We don’t accept checks.
