Moving In and Out of Troy

Troy’s housing stock splits pretty clearly along Big Beaver Road. South of Big Beaver, closer to 14 Mile and 15 Mile, you’re mostly dealing with mid-century ranch homes and split-levels built in the 1960s and 70s. Solid homes, but the same narrow hallways and tight turns that make that era’s construction tricky to move out of. North of Big Beaver the homes get newer and larger, two-story colonials, executive homes with three-car garages and finished basements, and gated communities off Livernois and Crooks Road where homes regularly run 3,500 to 5,000 square feet. Those are full-day jobs that need the right crew size going in.

Troy also has a dense corridor of luxury apartment and condo buildings running along Big Beaver between I-75 and Rochester Road. High-rise and mid-rise buildings in this area, particularly near Somerset Collection, almost always have elevator reservation requirements and assigned move-in windows set by building management. These windows are typically two to four hours and are non-negotiable. We’ve worked enough of these buildings to know how to stage and sequence a move to get done within the window. Tell us your building’s requirements and time slot when you book, and we’ll plan arrival and crew size to match.

Corporate relocations are common in Troy given the concentration of company headquarters and business parks along the I-75 and Crooks Road corridors. If you’re relocating for work with a fixed move-in date, call as early as you can. Company-driven moves often have hard deadlines, and we’d rather hold your date in advance than try to fit you in last minute.

Common Questions

How far in advance should I book?
Two weeks gives you the best options on date and crew. We take short-notice calls when we have availability, call and ask. High-rise condo moves near Somerset book faster because the building’s move window constrains scheduling on both ends.

I’m relocating to Troy for work and my move-in date is fixed. Can you hold that date?
Yes. Call as early as possible and give us the date. We’ll confirm availability and hold it. Corporate relocations with hard deadlines are something we deal with regularly in Troy, we know the drill.

My condo building near Big Beaver has a two-hour elevator window. Can you finish a one-bedroom move in that time?
Usually yes, depending on the floor and volume. A standard one-bedroom with normal furniture and pre-packed boxes is typically 1.5 to 2.5 hours once we’re on site. Tell us your floor, building access, and whether you have boxes ready to go, and we’ll give you an honest answer before you book, not after.

My Troy home is a 1960s ranch with narrow interior doors. Can you move large furniture?
Yes. We disassemble what needs to come apart and remove doors from hinges when the clearance isn’t there. No extra charge for standard disassembly.

Do you move pianos?
Yes. Before booking, send photos of the entrances at both locations so we can confirm access and quote accurately.

What forms of payment do you take?
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Amex. Payment is collected at the end of the job. We don’t accept checks.
